Relationships Principles

Connecting and Interacting with Healthy Dynamics

PRINCIPLES for Healthy Relationships:

KEYWORD LIST:
  1. Contact
  2. Behavior
  3. Trust
  4. Reflection & Growth
  5. Respect & Love
  6. Forgiveness & Compassion
  7. Work, effort

MORE DETAILS:

  1. Contact- In order to have a relationship with someone, I must have some form of contact with them! Spending time with them, talking to and listening to them, and interacting with them are investments that increase the quality of the relationship.

  1. Behavior-  The more consistent and positive the behaviors in a relationship are, the more dependable and beneficial the relationship will be. Bonding through wholesome activities is encouraged and worthy of conscious effort!

  1. Trust- I must trust myself to be the ultimate expert in my children and their discipline. I must also trust other people in influential roles, that they will responsibly contribute to my children’s growth and well-being.

  1. Reflection and Growth- I must be self-aware, humbly acknowledging any of my behaviors that need to be adjusted in order to make my relationships stronger and more fruitful for everyone involved.

  1. Respect and Love- I will pursue relationships in which each person treats the other as an independent, thinking person with valid ideas, wants, needs, and motivations. This genuine respect and love allows for greater authenticity and less contention overall. I will humbly address issues as they arise with the goal of reaching a compassionate compromise.

  1. Forgiveness and Compassion- My relationships provide the greatest satisfaction when I accept that all of us are imperfect, still developing relational skills. I commit to being quick to forgive errors and letting others “have a bad day” just as I would want done for me.

  1. Work- Relationships take intentional effort to develop and to maintain. I consciously commit to taking necessary steps and work deliberately towards healthy relationships.
