No one's Imperfect... the word itself says: "I'm Perfect!"
The truth is, you really are perfect as you are in this moment. Stick with me as I try to convince you of this logic, that you can be perfect even though your imperfections ceaselessly clamor to get the most attention. The key is to see how valuable your mistakes have been in shaping who you are today as you've learned from them! There is far more value in figuring out how to conscientiously stop repeating mistakes than in never making a mistake in the first place.
Think back to your toddler self and how you learned to balance so that you could eventually walk, with fewer and fewer falls. Your brain had to experience the swaying and slipping in order to put into proper perspective the steady and solid stepping. This pattern holds true for all of your progress -- and once you understand how to harness the power of mistakes, you'll celebrate each fail because of how much it will teach you about success. When lifting weights, you must experience resistance in order for your muscles to eventually bulge. So it is with how mistakes (when acknowledged as such) provide resistance to your brain and help it to grow.
Having this gracious understanding about how mistakes are stepping stones instead of stumbling blocks can help you in your work as a mother, because you'll show greater patience to yourself AND your children. You'll be able to brush over their short term behavioral hiccups and see how, in the long term, they'll allow your child to choose more wisely because they've experienced the negative and won't want that for themselves. You'll forgive yourself and your children far more readily and this atmosphere of acceptance and unconditional love will contribute to everyone's mental health.
